The well-received Official Thrive Forum Game Competition was the first forum game to be operated on a complex system of rules.
The game began on August 18, 2015, and its last round was posted on July 17, 2016.

The game gave each player control over a population of the intial species (a simple, unicellular organism), with their task being to survive and evolve. Their success in doing so was determined by the result of dice rolls performed by TheCreator.
Throughout the game, each player would have a conservation status reflecting their species' performance (mostly based on successful mutations, although factors like interspecies competition and environmental disasters also played a role). Should their species go extinct, a player could continue playing by either branching off of another player's species, or by taking control of an NPC.
